Info on Porter's proposal

https://porterplans.com/New-Planes

Porter is planning to add the brand new, state-of-the-art, Canadian-made Bombardier CS100 to their fleet. These whisper jets are the quietest commercial jets in production. They are tailor-made for urban airports and are comparably quiet. The CS100 consumes half the fuel per passenger of most modern compact cars. Pioneering technology means the CS100 creates 20% less carbon emissions than planes in its class, giving it a peerless environmental scorecard.

The runway extension requested by Porter consists of a total extension into the water of 168 metres at each end of the main runway, which will not change current boundaries.

CYCLE TRACK STUDY

Cycle Tracks - Bicycle lanes separated from motor vehicle traffic lanes by a physical object, such as parked cars, bollards (short posts), a landscaped buffer, planters, concrete island, or a curb.

For more information please visit: www.toronto.ca/cycling/richmond-adelaide/

What is the City Studying?

1. Identify a route & design for east-west physically separated bicycle lanes (cycle tracks) between Bathurst Street and Sherbourne Street, using Richmond, Adelaide, and/or Wellington (to Yonge Street).

2. Identify and develop design for north-south cycling connections between the Beverley Street bicycle lanes and the waterfront using Peter and/or Simcoe Street.

The city of Toronto is currently considering installing Cycle Tracks, which are bike lanes separated from motor vehicle traffic lanes by objects like posts, landscaped buffers, concrete islands, or curbs.

If you run a business or live along the corridors, Cycle Tracks may...

  • eliminate lanes of traffic and on-street parking spaces

  • inconvenience drivers making turns in/out of parking lots/garages or laneways

  • prohibit turns at some intersections

  • limit curbside parking & loading to one side of the street

What do you think of THE LATEST MIRVISH PRODUCTION?

We have closed this poll as of 11:30pm April 14th with the following results:

Question: "Should the Princess of Wales Theatre be torn down to build the Mirvish proposal as presented below."

               Yes         10.53% (8 votes)

                No          85.53% (65 votes)

               Not Sure  4% (3 votes)

This poll was open to the community for a period of one month.

Developer David Mirvish has announced plans to demolish the Princess of Wales Theatre in order to build an iconic new condo development consisting of three "sculpture" towers of 82, 84, and 86 storeys.  Critics of the project are concerned about insufficient infrastructure & services (fire, hospital, police, transit, hydro facilities); intense traffic congestion, dust, noise, etc. from several simultaneous construction projects; a surplus in the supply of condos (and their corresponding effect on property values & the local economy) already approved or planned for the area; the demolition of heritage buildings (The Princess of Wales Theatre, Restaurant Row, and others); the dramatic transformation to the existing character of the community and the precedent that this proposal would set in terms of increasingly taller condo buildings in the area.  More details - click here.  Please vote above ONLY ONCE! Should a CASINO be built in Downtown Toronto?

We have closed this poll as of 11:30pm April 14th with the following results:

Question: "What do you think of the Oxford Place plan to rebuild the convention centre and add a casino?"

52.5% (42 votes) "It look s great, including the casino"

26.25% (21 votes) "I like everything except the casino"

12.5% (10 votes) "I don't like any part of it"

             8.75% (7 votes) "other/undecided"

This poll was open to the community for a period of one month.

The Oxford Place redevelopment proposal includes: a revitalized and expanded convention centre; two 70-storey towers offering new retail, office and residential space; 4,000 new sub grade parking stalls; and an integrated casino/hotel complex. The casino would comprise less than 10% of the project and would be funded, built and operated by the casino operator. The addition of 5.5 acres of landscaped walkway, built over top of the rail lines, will run the length of Oxford Place and provide the city with new green space. The overbuild of the rail lines will link Front St and downtown to the waterfront, dramatically improving north/south & east/west connectivity, accessibility and pedestrian movement. The site will be connected to Toronto’s PATH with dedicated bicycle lanes running just south of the site. The plan also takes all bus, truck, and taxi traffic down to a new below grade road, and relieves the queuing pressure presently on both Bremner and Front Streets, which will enable better pedestrian & vehicle flow. The plan includes five access points on Simcoe, Front Street, Blue Jays Way, Bremner and potentially Lakeshore, all of which will significantly improve traffic flow.
